Accessing UK Film Tax Relief
Tax relief is available for British qualifying films. Films must either pass the Cultural Test or qualify as an official co-production
Films must be intended for theatrical release
Films, including those made under official co-production treaties, must reach a minimum UK spend requirement of 10%
Tax relief is available on qualifying UK production expenditure on the lower of either 80% of total core expenditure or the actual UK core expenditure incurred
There is no cap on the amount which can be claimed
The FPC responsible for the film needs to be within the UK corporation tax net
Minimum UK spend requirement
A minimum of 10% of costs must be spent on UK qualifying production expenditure.
UK qualifying production expenditure is defined as expenditure incurred on filming activities (pre-production, principal photography and post production) which take place within the UK, irrespective of the nationality of the persons carrying out the activity.
HM Revenue & Customs’ (HMRC) definition of UK spend introduces the concept of where a good or service is “used or consumed†in the UK. If they are used or consumed in the UK, the expenditure is treated as UK expenditure (under the rules set out in the clauses of the Finance Bill). If they are used or consumed outside the UK, they do not count as UK expenditure.
Further details on the definition of “used or consumed†are available in HMRC’s guidance on Film Tax Relief.
Film Production Company (FPC)
UK Film Tax Relief is available to FPCs.
The FPC is defined as the company responsible for the principal photography and post production of the film and for the completion of the finished film. (There is no requirement for the film rights to be owned by the FPC at the time the film is completed).
The FPC must be within the UK corporation tax net.

Ealing Studios is THE oldest continually operating film studios in the world and is the go to dry hire and enigmatic office of choice for Woody Allen, Martin Scorcese and Steven Spielberg when they are shooting in London.....which whilst not a frequent occurance speaks volumes for the estemed regard that the best in the business hold the 'other White House' in which is the name of the Sir Michael Balcon original main building on Ealing Green, London W5.
We dont take ourselves too seriously either....not least because Monty Python made it their home also and from then on every ground breaking English comedy series from Fawlty Towers, Ripping Yarns, and even Dr Who have filmed here (you should've seen the sets in the early days...and those Cyber costumes ..on BBC budgets)!
What you will also discover is that the reason we are relaxed is because we have over 25 years continuous experience sourcing and delivering scintillating locations in a city that is as busy as it is complex. Trust us to cut through the bureaucracyon time, every time. Even within 24hrs. Just ask Jon Cassar.
What makes London stand out is quite frankly our talent, experience and as ever our British humour.
Ealing is synonymous with humour and the studios are famous the world over for their comedy productions of the 30's, 40's and 50's.
What relevance has this past for today?
We're relaxed, even confident.... in our ability to offer an experienced service which will directly pay off for your next production. Saving precious time and therefor money is a given, doing it without without cutting corners on creative standards is priceless.
Location finding; private residential properties, industrial / commercial to down right quirky, we will arrange your parking, advise on traffic control measures, arrange wet downs, Health & Safety and lock off more roads than central London. Just ask Jon.
