thirty years in the business as a studio executive (Columbia Pictures), executive
producer, writer/director, and coach with contacts, I started The Script Broker
®. Empowering writers makes my heart sing. Integrating my love for story
and my knack for market, I have helped many writers not only grow as artists,
but grow as marketeers of their art, an essential ingredient to any artist's
career. On occasion, when a script shows profound promise, I will offer to
broker it, which means I call some of the producers or agents in my Rolodex
and pitch the project and the writer.
As a story expert, studios hire me to fix their scripts. That is one of
my gifts. But the other side of my work is helping the writer find his/her
niche. After triumphing over a life-threatening illness, an epiphany struck
me. A writer's theme in life is what drives their work. It is the engine
that fuels a writer's career, and it is often the thing that is most neglected.
Writers look for the gold outside of themselves, missing the theme within
which is their unique "competitive edge."
As CEO of The Script Broker ®, I built a team of infinitely talented,
creative, and experienced individuals who understand both craft and marketplace;
creators and nurturing guides who share my love of writers and writing.
Our evaluation services are designed to bridge the gap between where a project
is and where it needs to be in order to compete in the marketplace, while
still maintaining the writer's original voice and vision. Our brokering
services kick in when a script is ready to market. While other services
only look to the major markets, we believe every script has its own built-in
market. Rather than just tossing a project out indiscriminately and hoping
something sticks, we seek the right match for each client.
We provide script consulting services to help writers mold and refine their
work for market-readiness. We roll up our sleeves and help you make the
work sizzle. I train my staff and oversee their notes to ensure that our
coverage is among the best in the business with an extra emphasis on market-readiness.
Our premium script consulting service isn't coverage. It consists of professional
development notes that I would give to a writer whose script my studio had
optioned to produce. For this service, our rates are very competitive. Our
personal coaching services span one-on-one writing, editing and career strategizing
for industry professionals in a variety of disciplines.
